Ever wish you had a magic mirror? One that didn’t show any of your flaws and embellished your good points? One that made you look good! Whenever we compare ourselves to others one of us will always come up short. Often it is ourself. We wish we had that magic mirror so that when we looked in it we saw someone with a perfect body, beautiful looks, overflowing bank account, perfect children, on and on with whatever you think you should be.
The thing is, we do have a mirror that shows us complete and whole, wanting nothing. It’s the Word of God. Oh, there she goes with that religious stuff again! Nope! If I were being religious, I would say we are all sinners, so unworthy. The truth is we were sinners, we were unworthy in and of ourselves. But if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are no longer in and of yourself. He has made you worthy. He has made you righteous. He has made you complete. If you will look at what the Bible says about you, you will find out that you are a new creature. You will find out that through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, you have been put right with God. You will find that He sees you as a beautiful, wonderful child whom He dearly loves.
Are we perfect right now? Spiritually, yes - in our soul and in our body, that is a big no! Because of sin in this world, we are still a work in progress in those realms. But because we are in Him, it is a work that is coming into completion. Have you ever watched any of those home improvement shows? They take run down houses and make them absolutely beautiful. When they are finished, they are so gorgeous! Do you think they stay that way? Of course not! People move in. Even if no one moved in, time would take its toll on them. That is just the way this world works. But the cool thing about being a Christian is that we are under constant renovation, yet God sees us as already complete and gorgeous! Amazing!
He sees us that way, but we often do not. How do we change that? By looking into His “magic” mirror - the Word of God. Many years ago, I heard a preacher say to look in the New Testament for all the scriptures that say, “in Him”, “in Whom”, “in Christ” and you will see how God sees you because of Jesus. It’s not our own doing. It’s not based on our own actions. It is based on what Jesus did for us. But as you look at those scriptures your mind will begin to become renewed to who you really are. You will begin to think differently about yourself. And anytime you begin to think you’re not good enough, not pretty enough, not rich enough, just look in that “magic” mirror. God loves you so much!
