Jesus Loves Me This I Know…

…for the Bible tells me so. You’re probably singing that song in your head now, right?! Most of us have heard that song before, but it has very special significance for me. When I first became a Christian, it took me awhile to understand that God could love ME. I wasn’t a serial killer or crazy maniac, but I felt like I was not worth the God of the Universe’s love and attention. God used something so simple as that old song (as well as other things) to demonstrate to me that He really did love me.

Unconditional love is really a bit foreign to most of us. We can mentally ascend to it or even note rare occasions where we’ve seen it. But to truly experience unconditional love is a whole other thing. Maybe you’ve had a friend or family member show it to you a little or even a lot. But the truth is, people eventually fail you. Sometimes they don’t even mean to, but they can.

As a mom, I especially want my children and grandchildren to understand and experience unconditional love. I want my friends to experience it from me. But the truth is, I am fallible. We all are. We want to be there 100% for others, but it is just now possible all the time.

But the fact is, God is not fallible. Even when you feel like He has let you down, He didn’t. We all experience hurts in our life. Disappointments. But we can’t give up on God. If we truly read the Bible with an open heart, we will see that yes, Jesus loves us – the Bible tells me so! His love for us is woven in and out of every scripture. He desires better for us than we can even think or imagine! His heart is constantly strategizing how to bless us and bring us abundant life! He counted us worthy to lay His life down for. His desire is to love us.

I sang that song to all of my children as I rocked them to sleep when they were little. I have done it with all of my grandchildren as well. And now I’m singing it to you: Jesus loves you, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little one, to Him you belong! You once were weak, but in Him you are strong! Yes, JESUS loves you! Yes, Jesus LOVES you! Yes, Jesus loves YOU! The Bible tells me so!
