I was recently in a meeting where the ice breaker was the following statement: “If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?” It was to be something that doesn’t already exist in the Olympic medal list. I decided I had a good chance of winning a medal at Plate Spinning. I have always had several irons in the fire and people often comment on how I can balance everything. It isn’t always easy, and I haven’t always been successful, but it is something that I do and that I believe God has anointed me to do.
I have had people in the past question whether I should spin all those plates, especially leaders who I suspect wanted me to put some other plates down so I could give them more of my time. Others have said that because they could never fathom themselves balancing so many plates. But like I said, I believe God has anointed me to do just that. As I lean into Him, He helps me to know what to do when and when to say no.
My point is not for you to admire my abilities, but for you to reflect on your own life. Who has God made you to be? What has He anointed you to do? Often the traits and anointings God gives can be your greatest asset or the area that the enemy can trip you up. I have allowed myself to get too busy at times, causing stress to myself and those around me. But when I am purposefully relying on God to lead and guide me, I can do it. The key is knowing what He has called you to do and knowing that if He called you, He anointed you to do it. So, do it.
Don’t look at yourself and wish you could be more like this person or that. Look at yourself honestly and openly before God. God, who am I? What traits did you give me? How can I use those traits for the glory of God and to advance Your kingdom? You may not be able to juggle the things I do, but I guarantee there are things you do that I cannot do because God anointed you to do it, not me!
We each have our gifts. Instead of admiring the gifts others have received, ask God to show you your gifts. Then open them, admire them, use them. Yes, I said admire them. Not because you are something special because you have that gift, but because God gave you that special gift! It is from God! He loved you so much that He made you that way. He gave you that gift to bless you and to bless others. He loves you so much!
So, don’t be afraid to just be you. You are unique, one of a kind. That’s not only okay, but that’s also marvelous! That is God’s plan! And when we all come together with the gifts God has given us, we are a beautiful symphony before Him. Play on! Be YOU!
